In 2019 GDA sponsored a 1-day chainsaw safety training day open to volunteers, with training offered by the Ontario Parks Association. In exchange, each participant has continued to volunteer with removal of trees which fall across the trails. Trail users get in touch as they notice fallen trees, a volunteer keeps a spreadsheet of the trees and communicates with the chainsaw group. A second chainsaw workshop was held in October of 2022.
Following the windstorm of May 2022, volunteers gave over 300 hours of time to remove fallen trees from the trails.
