In 2021 we purchased trail counters and partnered with TRCA to install them on the East Duffins Headwaters properties. We obtained an additional counter through Trans Canada Trail Foundation. The counters provide valuable data on the number of trail users, and of year-over-year increases in trail users. The information will help all organizations and groups to understand patterns of trail use in the area and will greatly inform our data when applying for grants, and in working towards a better funding model to help care for the trails. We are using trail counters made by TRAFx.
TRCA staff collect and analyze the data; after just one year the counters show that this area is an extremely popular destination.
No personal information is collected, no photos are taken, the counters simply count the number of people who walk by.
