In August, 2017 GDA received a grant of $75,000 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The funds will be used to develop the master plan required for a trail connection between the new northern boundary of Rouge National Urban Park and the lands known as the “Goodwood Tract”, which are owned and managed by the TRCA .
The total project will cost $150,000, with the balance of funds contributed by Green Durham Association, by Oak Ridges Trail Association and by Parks Canada.
This project is important for several reasons:
Parks Canada now joins other partners who have worked for many years to develop trail networks on the Moraine
The northern boundary of Rouge National Urban Park will soon connect to the extensive trail network in Uxbridge Township
This area can be accessed by public transit, the Linconville stop of the GO network is within walking distance.
The master plan will be completed by the end of July 2018 and will be followed shortly thereafter by the implementation of recommendations such as foot bridges, trail building and any necessary trail closures.
A public event will be held to recognize this enormous gift from Ontario Trillium Foundation. Follow us on Facebook or check back on this page for further details on the event once they have been confirmed.
